#WeekendRewind: Victoria’s New Secrets, Toy Story 4 and Swift Off Spotify

0
0

It’s just not a weekend without a #WeekendRewind. Here’s some of the big headlines you may have missed during the week:

Victoria’s Secret Exposed

Huge props to 22-year-old Frances Black, who launched the #IAmPerfect twitter campaign in reaction to a Victoria’s Secret ad campaign featuring supposedly “perfect” bodies. Images of samey, slender women next to the words “The Perfect Body,” were sending all the wrong body-image messages to shoppers across the country, and Black’s online petition has already succeeded in altering the tagline on the company’s official website, according to eonline reports. The new tagline reads “A Body For Every Body.” Much better, no?

 Swift Dumps Spotify Because Reasons

Already shattering records with the release of her new record, 1989, Taylor Swift made the decision to keep her work off of the popular streaming service Spotify. Citing a plurality of reasons headlined by the fact that something about the service felt strange to her, Swift maintains that the music industry is ever-changing, which I’d say makes it that much more important to know just where you stand. She’s got a point; albums are meant to be a collective experience. Eonline has the full story.

Reaching for the Star(buck)s

Rumor has it that Dallas will be getting a flavor shot with our next Starbucks installment. Topix has the story, which involves the construction of something called a “flagship” store scheduled in the Shops at Park Lane sometime in the Spring of 2015. The new store will apprently be modeled after one in Austin, although it’s unlikely that we’ll see a carbon copy. Still, if you’re going to do a stylized coffee bar, Austin is a great test market.

Toy Story 4 Spawns Twitter Thinktank

Possibly the best news of the week comes from Slashfilm, which not only announced a Toy Story 4 but also provided a few fantastic ideas for the direction of the next film. Fans were more than happy to pitch their best ideas on Twitter, and if they have their way we’ll be seeing a near-war between Toys and Videogames for the very hearts and minds of our youth. Not to be outdone, ScreenRant jumped in with a few ideas built around the fact that Disney owns both Marvel and Star Wars. I wouldn’t mind seeing some Avengers toys led by Darth Vader.

Dallas Cleared Of Ebola

This one should have been hard to miss, but it warrants repeating: The Ebola Scare is officially over, if reports from DallasNews are to be believed. The last of those quarantined have reached the end of the incubation window for the virus without any sign of symptoms, which means we’re safe and relatively unscathed after a month of tension. Of course, cautious folk and conspiracy theorists are going to keep scrubbing their hands and wearing glove/mask combos for the foreseeable future regardless of what they’re told. But extra safety never hurt anybody.

That’s not all the news, but it’s a hefty portion. Now get out there and make your own headlines!

Getting drunk is fun, but sometimes watching other inebriates is even more enjoyable. Courtesy of Buzzfeed, here are several characters off their list of 23 types of drunk people you see on a night out:

  • The guy who will sleep anywhere.
  • The friend who just keeps yelling, “Shots! Shots! Shots!”
  • The person who’s acting pretty chill until his or her song comes on.
  • The guy so drunk, he falls over randomly and without reason.
  • The guy who is still completely dressed, but also completely disheveled.
  • The one who just keeps saying, “I am soooooo druuuuuunk!”
  • The friend who’s fine until taking that one extra shot of tequila.
  • That arguing couple where one won’t let it go and the other just wants to drink more.
  • Your friend who is overly confrontational and interprets everything wrong.
  • The dude who’s incapacitated on the bathroom floor.

I am…not on the list.

Here Is Everything You Need To Know About Tax Free Weekend!

0
0

Tax free weekend is this weekend and you know what that means, every where is going to be packed this weekend. Even with that said you can cash in on some good deals though.

Here are some things to remember while you head out this weekend.

  1. Use coupons as much as possible – Lots of retailers still except coupons during tax fee weekend. Khol’s, JC Penny, and Bed Bath and Beyond are among some of the stores that except coupons this weekend.
  2. Buy big ticket items that are less than $100 – Try and snag some backpacks and big winter coats during tax free weekend. Did you know if the item costs more than $100 you will get charged the tax on that item?
  3. Shop Online – Do you hate those massive lines, and fighting for parking? Just shop online, but remember to use those coupons still.
  4. Don’t buy things that aren’t tax exempt – You would think this would be a no brainer, but stores are tricky at what they do. DON’T DO IT!
  5. Place or pay for a layaway order – Just placing or paying for your layaway order this weekend will keep you tax free. Just something to think about.

A lot of athletic wear is not tax free this weekend. Cleats and other items like this aren’t tax free. Be sure to check at TexasTaxHoliday.Org for all of the fine print on what is and isn’t tax free.

Fright Fest Opens At Six Flags This Weekend! You Have To Check Out The New Ride!

0
0

October is right around the corner and you know what that means, Fright Fest is opening at Six Flags. It’s one of our favorite times of the year at the park.

Good luck making it through the Black Widow Walk. This is the way Six Flags website describes it:

Giant spiders capture their prey and save them in their cocoons to be injected with their venom and turning their insides in to a soupy food source.

Your arachnophobia fears come true when you walk down this path. Is that a chill up your spine or a friendly creepy crawler? And you may want to look down when you feel that tickle on your arm.

Whatever you do walk quickly because these larger than life red-eyed spiders  are hungry and you may be their next soupy prey.

Our skin is already crawling just thinking about it. If spiders aren’t your thing maybe you will like the Blackout Maze:

Are you afraid of the dark?

Try and navigate your way through the dark as your senses are assaulted from all directions. Look out for the demons that hide in corners lying in wait to claim their prize. Those who show their fear will be the first to go and despite the common phrase– the strongest will not survive!

Enter if you dare and prepare for the ultimate scare.

One of our favorite additions is the “Rage Of The Gargoyles Virtual Reality Roller Coaster.” The cool part is this roller coaster can be recreated for almost anything, and that is exactly what Six Flags has done. It’s the same ride, but a totally different experience. Basically making it a new ride. We can’t wait to check this one out.

“You can now battle demonic creatures while riding Shock Wave on the world’s first fully-integrated Virtual Reality (VR) gaming coaster experience featuring Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus.”

It has become a yearly tradition to go to Fright Fest, if you have never been you have to go check it out. You can get more info on all the zombie dancing fun HERE!!!

Do you have big plans for the weekend? Are you going out with friends and having a couple of drinks? We have the perfect weekend remedy for you.

They have now created a hangover spray to help you out the next day.

The bottle says it will Prime, Set, and Refresh. Not sure exactly what that means, but there is coconut water in it. That means it works for sure, right?

One of our favorite products is Party Smart. If you know you are going out, and going to be drinking a lot you take one of these bad boys and the next day you feel fine.

Seriously, if you know you are going out that night you have to take one of these.

“Lego Batman” Dominates The Weekend Box Office, “Fifty Shades Darker” Comes Second

0

Last year, Deadpool had the biggest opening weekend in 20th Century Fox history by making $132.4 million in its opening weekend.  This past weekend, another superhero film, albeit one with a completely different audience in mind led the box office, as The Lego Batman Movie earned $55.6 million.  Fifty Shades Darker was second with $46.8 million, and in third was John Wick: Chapter 2 with $30 million.

The Lego Batman Movie is now only one of six animated movies that have opening weekends in the $50 million range.  It is already pushing $100 million, and can very well break the $200 million mark.  The movie resonates with both parents and their children, and kids are going in full force to the theaters.  3% of Kindergarten through 12th grade students were off of school this weekend, and many were let out early in the Northeast due to snow days.

Warner Bros domestic distribution president Jeff Goldstein said “The Lego Movie launched a franchise and Lego Batman is a stand-alone that’s part of this family.  This result shows the immense interest in each of these Lego movies.  We have the Lego Ninjago Movie in September, and later on The Lego Movie Sequel.  It’s an exciting future for this franchise.”

The Boss Baby Dethrones Beauty and the Beast at the Box Office this Weekend

It took a baby dressed like a business man to over come the beast.

DreamWorks pictures the Boss Baby took in an estimated 49 million at the box office this weekend, just beating out Disney’s live action remake of Beauty and the Beast which took in 47 million during its 3rd week of release. Early predictions had Beauty and the Beast still at No.1 and Boss Baby at no. 2  only taking in 30 million. While the two family friendly films battled it out, Scarlett Johanssons film Ghost in a Shell struggled to stay afloat only taking in 19 million.

Quite the shake up at the movies this weekend.

“The Fate Of The Furious” Overtakes “Star Wars” For Biggest Worldwide Opening Of All Time

0

If early estimates hold when the final numbers are tabulated later today, the latest installment in the The Fast and the Furious franchise will become a global record holder.

The Fate of the Furious earned an estimated $532.5 million in its debut over the Easter weekend, including $100.2 million domestically and a $432.2 million overseas.  If the numbers hold, Fast 8 will eclipse Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the biggest worldwide opening off all time.  The 7th installment in the Star Wars franchise earned $529 million worldwide during its opening weekend.

Universal international distribution chief Duncan Clark commented that “This franchise is showing no sign of wear and tear.  Fate of the Furious is satisfying audiences on many different levels.”  Universal domestic distribution president Nick Carpou added, “Considering this is the second-highest opening domestically out of eight films speaks to the fact that people continue to be interested in the storyline.”  Furious 7 had the franchises biggest domestic opening, earning $147 million its first weekend.

Sleeping In On The Weekends Could Help You Lose Weight

0
0

A recent study that said sleeping in on the weekends was bad for your health … but now there’s this … Research published in the journal Sleeps suggests that sleeping in on the weekends could actually have some benefits.

The study revealed that people who slept too little throughout the week and caught up on sleep on the weekends had slightly lower BMIs (body mass index) than those who slept too little all week and did not compensate on weekends.

The study found this might have something do with the fact that getting too little sleep can disrupt your hormones and metabolism.

So make sure to turn that alarm clock off over the weekend.
